Basic Steps
01 Your Photo:
It’s true that a photo tells 1,000 words. Adding a professional photo makes you 14 times more likely to be found on LinkedIn!! Choose a photo that shows the warm, sunny side of your personality. Smile, use natural light, and face the camera head on. Go for a headshot focused on the shoulders up. That cropped photo with a mystery arm hovering on your shoulder just doesn’t cut it. It’s time for an upgrade.
02 Headline:
This text comes up just under your name at the top of your profile. When a Recruiter searches for someone with your expertise, they’ll see your name and this headline in the list of search results. A catchy headline grabs their attention & could get you noticed quickly. Be creative & professional. Otherwise, LinkedIn defaults to your last job title…zzzzz
03 Summary:
This is an open text box to tell us all about you. Your summary should answer 3 key questions: 1. Who are you?; 2. What do you do?; 3. What makes you different? Tell a story that lets us into your inner circle in a professional, yet personal way.
04 Get Recommendations:
Recommendations on your profile tell a Recruiter you’re well connected & respected by your network. So important!! We want to hire people like that. Be selective and ask credible connections to recommend your work. Let them help you!!
05 Write Posts:
This is your chance to share your expertise with your connections & anyone they share it with! LinkedIn makes it easy to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Help people solve a problem and showcase your know-how at the same time. Plus, your posts show up at the top of your profile so Recruiters know that you got this!!
