So, there you are… crushing it in your field, snagging high-profile projects, earning kudos from colleagues and C-Suites alike, making great money (an easy $100K+)…

…And yet, when you curl up at the end of the night—just you, Netflix, and that half-empty carton of Häagen-Dazs—you wonder…

Is this all there is? And is this really worth it?

Yep you’ve “made it” on the job but deep down there’s no joy. What’s worse? You’ve got nothing left to give, and the anemic social life to prove it.

Bottom line, something needs to change fast, am I right? You can’t spend the next 2, 5, or 10 years feeling this way. Sometimes you’re not even sure if you can make it another week…

The only problem is you’re not exactly sure what your next career move should be, and you’re even less sure how you can go about figuring things out.

And this is where so many women find themselves in limbo.

They know it’s time to make a move but they won’t shimmy into a new direction because they’re waiting to land on exactly what their next step should be.

The thing is… moving forward and making change in your career doesn’t require knowing exactly where you’re headed.

In fact, it’s absolutely okay to NOT know what your next step is going to be.

Before working with me, most of my clients don’t have a clue.

The only thing you DO have to know?

You have to know that you’re ready to move past the 5 most common distractions that keep you from actually moving forward.

So, let’s take a good look at those 5 distractions right now so you can put your big girl panties on and make the decision to ditch them for good.

Distraction #1

All The Free Online Advice (AKA Information Overwhelm)

Now, Google is a BOSS for many different things, but is legit career advice one of them? Hells no!

Yes, you’ll find useful information. I mean, you may have found THIS fabulous article with a well-crafted keyword search.

The trouble is, with 1.2 million+ search results at your fingertips and an already busy life, is it really useful to spend endless hours scouring “how to” tips to figure out which strategies will actually work for you?

The answer is no.

All that free advice simply compounds your overwhelm and frustration. Bonjour, information overload!

What’s worse, very few pieces of free information are going to speak to your individual needs and you’re going to come across contradictory approaches.

Really, trusting the information superhighway to guide your career move is like trying to watch a dozen reality shows at the same time. It hooks you in, but then it all gets muddled and your brain just shuts down.

So let’s ditch Google for career coaching. There are more reliable, proven sources (like MOI!)

Distraction #2

Relying On Your Friends For Help

If you’re anything like me, your friends are your family. They’ve got your back, and you can turn to them with pretty much everything, right?

Well, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re going to be spot-on when it comes to career advice.

While your friends mean well, they’re not experts, nor are they trained to guide you on your personal career journey.

They know you as their friend and their expectations of you are based on that relationship. When you’re in the career transition zone, you need someone by your side who can see your vision and take it up 10 notches.

That, my friend, is how you fly forward.

In other words, Friday night cocktails with your girls should be spent having fun and catching up, not getting a dozen different less-than-helpful suggestions.

So ditch the friend feedback loop and stick to a professional’s point of view.

Distraction #3

Trying To Do It All On Your Own

Yes, you’ve got a track record of getting it all done, all by yourself, at the office and in your personal life too.

BUT that doesn’t mean it’s the fastest or easiest way to do everything.

C’mon, wouldn’t it have been WAY easier to plan and host your cousin’s baby shower with a few extra hands on deck, or to put together your new bookcase with some help?

And really, when it comes to something as potentially life-changing as making a career move, you really don’t want to go it alone.

Here’s why:

You don’t have the benefit of emotional distance and perspective, or expertise for that matter. You can’t see a way out of your own “mess” because you’re stuck in it!

All the Google searching, friend asking, and late-night solo brainstorming sessions in the world aren’t going to help. Those puzzle pieces aren’t going to fall into place on their own, baby.

You need help with this!

So let’s ditch doing it on your own and get some help already!

Distraction #4

All The Overthinking

You’re used to tapping into that brilliant, creative brain of yours to think through problems. I get that.

This is what smart, successful women do and it serves us well when we’re managing multi-million dollar budgets or planning decadent adventures to Europe.

Trouble is, more thinking is not always useful when you’re navigating this kind of career move.

Instead, you actually need to move away from your brain and all the overthinking, and begin listening to your heart and your gut.

It’s your gut instinct (yes, women’s intuition is a REAL LIFE superpower!) that will guide you to where you want to go next.

You can’t usually intellectualize the type of role that is going to bring you true fulfillment because the answer comes from a deeper place.

In the business world, many women are taught to push that instinct aside. To use logic and reason instead.

However… not listening to your intuition is likely the reason you’re unable to move forward. Your intuition is what’s telling you that you need to do something different, and your intuition is what will guide you to what you really want next.

You can’t listen if you’re overthinking. It’s time to let your gut lead for a while instead.

Distraction #5

Doing the Same Things You’ve Always Done

Doing the same thing, over and over again, rarely yields a different result.

In fact, Einstein will tell you it’s the definition of insanity.

So… if you’ve been on the road to finding more fulfillment in your work for some time, making decisions and trying new roles on for size, without ever feeling like you’ve struck gold… chances are you need to sing a different song.

You’ve gone as far as you can with the strategies you already have under your belt and you’re not going to see different results until you learn to use new career tools and strategies.

Without different strategies, you’ll keep spinning like a broken record.

What you really need is a fresh, experienced perspective and a new game plan so you can jump into a new groove.

This is where I come in!
